Pulmonary Rehabilitation
Misericordia’s pulmonary rehabilitation program is designed for people with chronic breathing conditions such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), a condition that exhibits long standing shortness of breath and chronic cough. COPD includes chronic bronchitis, emphysema, and possibly chronic asthma.
The pulmonary rehabilitation program educates people with breathing difficulties about their disease, how to deal with it, how to take control and how to live a fuller more satisfying life. We show you skills so you can enjoy a graded exercise program designed for you and your specific needs. The education and strengthening will help maximize your level of fitness.
Assessments and educational awareness sessions are offered by a Respiratory Therapist, Physiotherapist, Social Worker, Dietitian, Pharmacist and Occupational Therapist.
The focus of Pulmonary Rehabilitation is:
- Education – Understanding Lung Disease and available equipment
- Exercise – Relaxation Techniques, Breathing Control Techniques
- Counselling – Infection Protection, Nutrition, Pharmacy, and Social Work
This unique wellness program combines exercise with education in a positive supportive environment and is available at NO COST. Your only requirement is to make a commitment to attend the sessions.
