Rehabilitation Services
Misericordia Health Centre’s rehabilitation services includes all physiotherapy and occupational therapy within MHC.
Physiotherapy is an evidence-based profession which uses scientifically proven techniques to help many conditions affecting the body. Through an advanced understanding of how the body moves, what keeps it from moving well and how to restore mobility, physiotherapists (PT) manage and prevent physical problems caused by:
- Illness
- Disease
- Sport and work-related injuries
- Aging
- Long periods of inactivity
Occupational therapy is a health profession concerned with promoting health and well-being through occupation by helping clients solve the problems that interfere with their ability to do the things that are important to them. The primary goal of occupational therapists (OT) is to help people participate in the occupations (activities) which give meaning and purpose to their lives through:
- Promotion of independence
- Maximizing functional abilities
- Maintaining safety
- Encouraging quality of life
Programs Serviced
Long-Term Care
OT is available to assist residents to maintain their comfort and independence by recommending equipment, changes to the environment or modifying how tasks are done. PT and rehabilitation assistants are available to provide an exercise or walking program for residents. Residents are referred by the nursing staff on the resident care unit.
Easy Street Rehabilitation
PT and OT are part of the interprofessional team, which provides treatment to clients who are having difficulty performing activities of daily living and community activities related to health changes.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation
PT and OT are a part of the interprofessional team which provides education, support, graded exercise and resource information to clients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and other chronic lung conditions.

Eye Care Centre of Excellence
OT provides assessment and treatment for clients who have experienced a recent change in vision. Functional assessments are performed to assist with discharge planning. PT provides assessment and recommendations for patients with limited mobility.
